Vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure to that bisects the vas deferens to eliminate the transfer of sperm upon ejaculation. The procedure can be performed in the office with local anesthesia. Because this is considered a permanent procedure, you will be asked to sign a consent form stating that you understand the procedure.

The urologic surgeons of Cleveland Urologic Surgery, PA are available for consultation. It is our goal that a patient completely understand the procedure, outcome and any risk factors associated with a vasectomy.

Usually only minor symptoms occur after a vasectomy such as swelling and discomfort. Most patients can return to work a few days after the procedure and can expect a full recovery within a week or two. While highly successful, the vasectomy’s effectiveness must be tested through a semen analysis, usually after a couple of months, to assure that the semen has no sperm. During this time, one must use another form of contraception to help prevent pregnancy.
